Golden Shears
The Guardians of the Golden Shears was started by The Rambler to honor and recognize students who influence the campus. Recipients are chosen for their academic achievement, leadership ability and all-around versatility.
Each member receives this blue and gold pin, which features the letter “R” and the number “38,” signifying the founding of the award. The golden pair of sheep shears centered in the pin is symbolic of the ram, the University mascot.
For more than seventy-five years, the Golden Shears award has been presented to outstanding student leaders, and faculty and staff members. It is an honor to be called a Guardian of the Golden Shears. This is a student-lead and student-nominated organization and they always seem to show up at University events to surprise the latest recipients.
